The 6 screws holding the front tunnel block-off plate are removed, as are the 2 bolts holding the steering rack braces. But the plate is held captive by a brake line that runs directly in front of it. There is a brake fluid distribution fitting bolted to the chassis next to the plate. I can get a wrench on the nut that is clamping the fitting, but where is the bolt head?
In this pic, the nut is circled. You are looking down between the brake master cylinder (out of focus blob at the bottom of the pic) and the HVAC box (top of the pic). The out of focus shiny stamped plate is on the brake vacuum booster. If this nut is on a free spinning bolt, how do I get to the bolt head? ![]() Jeff Last edited by 9secz : 07-24-2010 at 10:32 AM. |

I thought maybe the front tunnel access cover would expose the bolt, but no joy. All I see in there is solid tubes. I decided to try a little more muscle and finally wiggled the cover free without bending it all that much. The hole is drilled and air hose flange riveted in place. All I have to do now is get that %$#@ plate back in place.
It's been awhile since I last had cuts on my forearms... The plate is modded and back in place. The only fatality was a short stretch of the rubber grommet that protects the tunnel tubes that slipped off the plate. I shoved a piece of dense foam in its place. I sure am looking forward to more comfortable cruising! Jeff Last edited by 9secz : 07-24-2010 at 08:58 PM. |
